What to look out for

In the wake of the jailing of a Singaporean woman in Malaysia for illegal entry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reminded travellers to ensure their passports get stamped by Malaysian immigration authorities. Here are the procedures for entering and exiting Malaysia, whether you are travelling by train, bus, ferry or by foot:

By train

Singaporeans will not get their passports stamped when they travel from Tanjong Pagar Railway Station. Instead, Malaysian immigration officials will record travellers' details in their computer system.

On the white disembarkation card, Malaysian immigration officers will stamp the words 'KTM TG PAGAR SINGAPURA'.

The white disembarkation card must be retained until you leave Malaysia. If you lose it, you must make a police report.

By car, ferry or on foot

Singapore passports will be stamped only on the Malaysian side, upon entering and exiting

The white disembarkation card and passport will bear a blue square stamp (see above) on entry. One half of the white card will be retained by Malaysian immigration. The other half, with no stamp, must be kept and shown to immigration officials on the Malaysian side when coming back into Singapore.

Singaporeans should ensure their passport has been stamped by a Malaysian immigration officer. If it has not, the officer should be informed immediately.

Returning by car, ferry or on foot Make sure the white disembarkation card and passport are submitted together. Both will be given a red triangular stamp (see above), but the card will be retained. If the disembarkation card is lost, a police report should be made.

Documents required
Only Singaporeans holding a valid Singapore International Passport can enter Malaysia. There is no other travel document or card currently in use.
