Public buses comply with noise-emission standards
Mon, Dec 22, 2008
my paper

WE THANK Mr Curtis Lee for his letter, "Buses here noisier than elsewhere" (my paper, Dec 5).

All motor vehicles, including public buses, must comply with the noise-emission standards stipulated in the Environmental Protection and Management (Vehicular Emissions) Regulations administered by the National Environment Agency (NEA) before they are registered for use in Singapore.

Also, in-use motor vehicles are required to undergo mandatory periodic inspections.

The inspection includes a noise-emission test, for compliance with emission standards.

This is to ensure proper maintenance of engines and exhaust systems.

In the case of public buses, they are required to undergo inspection every six months.

Mr Lee may provide details of the noisy public buses he encountered for our follow-up action by calling 1800-CALLNEA (1800-225-5632).
