Act against Loyang Avenue racers

I live in Tampines and often travel to Changi Village via Loyang Avenue.

During the day, this particular stretch of road is heavily utilised by freight-forwarding lorries heading to the Changi Cargo Complex.

Many of these lorries could be seen travelling at an incredible speed.

During the night, drivers of illegally modified sports cars use this stretch of road to test their racing skills, without regard for the safety of other roads users.

The Traffic Police frequently conduct speed enforcement operations along certain selected roads but not at Loyang Avenue.

They should make their presence felt along Loyang Avenue at different times of the day and night, to send a strong signal that speeding and illegal racing cannot be condoned.

There have been many speed-related traffic accidents involving light goods and heavy vehicles in recent years.

In view of this, it is time the authorities made it mandatory for these categories of vehicles to be fitted with speed limiters.
