Police do speed checks in Loyang

We refer to the letter, "Act against Loyang Avenue racers" (June7).

We would like to assure Mr Poh Soon Leong that the Traffic Police has been carrying out regular enforcement action against errant motorists along Loyang Avenue and will continue to do so.

These include speed checks and special operations to clamp down on illegal racing, careless, inconsiderate and dangerous driving.

Apart from enforcement, the Traffic Police will also continue to educate the public on the dangers of speeding and dangerous driving via road-safety talks, exhibitions and outreach programmes.

The police take a serious view of motorists who disregard the safety of other road users, and strongly urge all motorists to play their part in making our roads safer.

Stop racers along Marymount Road

I refer to Mr Poh Soon Leong's letter, "Act against Loyang Avenue racers" (June7). Similar racers can be found along Marymount Road, especially in the direction of Ang Mo Kio. It is not uncommon to hear such souped-up cars racing along this road after 11pm on most nights.

Not only do these drivers pose a danger to other road users, but they also disturb the peace with their loud engine noise. I hope more can be done to curb these speedsters.
