Ambulance signals are not consistent

I TOTALLY agree with the commentary, "Drive faster" by Reggie J (The New Paper, 2 Oct).

I have lived in Canada and the US for many years and over there, there is a cultured respect to emergency response vehicles. It is due to the adage that you might be in it one day, needing help.

Singaporean drivers are a different breed, but what is scary is that this is contagious and I have noticed that others are following this irresponsible behaviour too.

On the part of the ambulance drivers/companies, I would like to know what is their criterion/policy when it comes to the signals they give.

I see, often times, that ambulances have lights flashing but no siren on, and they don't seem to be in a rush.

Or, some have sirens wailing, but no lights flashing.

So maybe this is getting people confused.

Will the authorities throw some light on this?
