What to do if motorist hits animal?

I concur with the views expressed by Miss Sia Ling Xin in her commentary, "All animals deserve legal protection" (my paper, March 13).

It is encouraging to know that a work group is being set up by the Government Parliamentary Committee for National Development to review animal-welfare policies.

Meanwhile, it would be good if the authorities could provide guidelines on what motorists should do if they run over an animal.

The guidelines should include telephone numbers that motorists can call for guidance, so they cannot say they do not know who to turn to for help if they injure or kill an animal in an accident.
