WHY does my car's steering wheel shake whenever I brake?

THIS can happen when the brake discs are unevenly worn. When the brake pads come into contact with such discs, vibrations - felt by the driver through the steering wheel - occur.

Have the brake discs machined so that their surfaces are even again.

The wheel bearing adjustment should be checked and you may need to replace the brake pads too.

When steering vibration occurs without the brakes being applied, the causes are usually associated with wheel or tyre imbalance.
