There is a thin film of oil covering my car's shock absorbers. What should I do?
As long as your shock absorbers are functioning properly, a thin layer of oil covering the top half of the working chamber is normal.
This oil on the rod comes from the inside of the working chamber as the rod cycles in and out of it, and acts as a lubricant.
However, fluids leaking down the side of the shock absorber indicate a worn or damaged seal. You should replace such seals.
