670 modified motorcycles

IN THE last two years, 670 motorcyclists have been caught for illegally modifying the exhaust systems of their vehicles, Transport Minister Raymond Lim said in Parliament yesterday.

He was replying a question from Member of Parliament Ellen Lee (Sembawang GRC).

The Land Transport Authority requires all vehicles, including motorcycles, to be sent for regular inspections at authorised inspection centres to ensure that they are roadworthy, and that they have not been illegally modified, he said.

It also conducts regular checks on the roads islandwide to enforce the rules.

Those found to have illegally modified their motorcycles will be fined up to $500, and be charged in court if they are repeat offenders.
