FOR a car whose boot was designed to accommodate four golf bags, the BMW 7 Series is certainly a model that keen golfers would appreciate. But equally interesting is the fact that the flagship BMW also offers a matching lifestyle.
That is because anyone buying a 7 Series car automatically becomes a member of the BMW 7 Series Privileges Programme, or 7PP. With 7PP, members get to tailor their own getaway in Perth, Australia. And part of the schedule includes playing golf at The Cut.
Authorised distributor Performance Motors created 7PP in 2002 and among the privileges owners of the 7 Series enjoyed was teeing off at the Blue Canyon Country Club in Phuket, Thailand. But in September, Performance relaunched the programme and relocated to Perth because it wanted to provide 7PP members with a new experience and also because customer feedback favoured the Western Australian city for its accessibility.
'We see this enhanced programme as the perfect reward for our valued BMW 7 Series owners because it provides them with a distinctive lifestyle programme that mirrors all their driving pleasure,' explains Performance Motors managing director Simon Rock.
The Cut's 18-hole course is considered one of the country's finest golf courses with what Golf Australia magazine calls 'a back nine stretch that is one of the best in Australia'. Sandwiched between the Indian Ocean and Peel Inlet, it is about 80 km south of Perth. But it is worth the hour-long car ride, especially for the panoramic ocean views.
Golfers cross the undulating fairways in nice, new buggies while admiring the private houses lining the perimeter of the course. These are not part of The Cut although some of their owners do rent them out to avid players seeking accommodation closer to the links.
And unlike the built-up multi-storey edifices we are used to in Singapore, the driving range at The Cut is by contrast luxuriously minimalist - it's just a wide expanse of grass.
At The Cut, 7PP members pay buggy fees but get their green fees waived, while their partners pay preferred rates.
For accommodation, 7PP members can either stay at the Seashells Resort about 20 minutes away from The Cut, or go back to Perth to put up at the Burswood hotel and casino. Members get preferential rates at both places.
The beachfront Seashells Resort is in Mandurah City and offers one and two-bedroom apartments. These are new and clean and come with a fully functioning kitchen which even includes a dishwasher. If you plan on doing your laundry, there is also a washing machine and ironing board.
The property doesn't have any F&B outlets, so you have to make do with the couple of cafes across the road at Dolphin Quay, a marina chock-full of boats and so-named because of the dolphins which sometimes frolic among them. In fact, they are said to come right up to the shore at the Seashells. But if they don't, you are assured of at least enjoying the sight of huge pelicans catching a thermal overhead.
If such pursuits seem a bit too pedestrian for you, 7PP also offers the complimentary use of a luxury yacht for a day for up to 12 people. The chartered vessel with its own captain and crew will either set sail from Mandurah or Perth, depending on weather conditions.
Lunch is provided and there is a host of menus to choose from. Destinations can be to the popular Rottnest island or any of the surrounding islands. Under 7PP, customers get complimentary use of the yacht one day every quarter of the year.
As a family-friendly proposition, 7PP is an excellent lifestyle programme, and now that it takes place in Western Australia with its temperate climate makes it even better. You even get to go to the airport in a chauffeured 7 Series. How fitting that 7 rhymes with heaven.
