How to do a 'donut': Don't try this at home

IVAN Lim, 26, demonstrates how to do a clockwise "donut" - a trick where the car's rear wheels burn rubber, causing the car to rotate around its front tyres.

But, take note. There is no place in Singapore to practise drifting.

Lim recommends taking a trip to Johor, to the skidpan at Indahpura in Kulai.

1 Steer all the way right when the car is stationary.

2 Press the clutch, engage first gear with the clutch still depressed.

3 Rev the engine, release the clutch and step on the accelerator all the way down.

4 You will hear the rear wheel spinning and feel the car's tail slide towards your left. Release the steering wheel, but the car is still at full throttle, and the wheel will naturally flick towards the left.

5 Grab the steering wheel again and play around with the throttle. Use the throttle to control the slide of the car. Minor steering corrections may be needed if the car runs out too wide.

6 Congratulations, you have done your first donut.
