Pride of Perodua car lovers

MALACCA, MALAYSIA: A very different automotive show was held here recently drawing owners of small-sized cars.

The Akaido Members Club, which caters exclusively for those with Perodua cars, has been operating since 2004 and has members in Malacca, Johor, Negri Sembilan and Selangor.

The name Akaido, a Japanese phrase meaning a narrow path that has no end or limits, was picked to suit the small and compact Perodua cars which show great capabilities on the road.

Some 100 Kancil, Kenari and MyVi frilled with a range of bodykit accessories were neatly parked in front of the Eye on Malacca in Jalan Tun Ali recently.

A few very offbeat cars were decorated with the hottest gadgets and accessories.

Among the favourites were cartoon characters, animal skin patterns and classic accessories.

Club member Rudy Asmady, 28, said he spent RM4,000 modifying his car's engine and bumpers.

Another club member, Mohd Fahmi Ibrahim, 21, said that yellow was a bright and aggressive colour for his Kancil, and as a student, could only afford accessories now and then.

Some cars had superb sound systems and others had dashboards modified artistically.
