The New Paper
Got guts? Join the SUVival Challenge

THE wait is over, folks.

Registration for The New Paper SUVival Challenge 2008 opens today.

And this time we're going further than ever to satisfy adventure lovers who love a good drive.

Destination Pahang will take place over the weekend of 26-27Apr, and it promises to be an exciting outing.

If you loved the 2006 Challenge to Desaru and the 2007 Challenge to Malacca, then you won't want to miss this.

Like the past trips, we have exciting games and off-road challenges in store for both adrenaline junkies and those seeking a holiday with a difference.

Drive through mud (and possibly get stuck).

Balance your SUV on logs placed over deep ditches.

Push it up steep slopes on hills.

Fun? We think so too.

$25,000 WORTH OF PRIZES

As if that's not enough, we've also raised the ante on the prizes, with $25,000 worth of cash, petrol vouchers and prizes to be given away.

All participating cars will receive a goodie bag containing $20 SPC vouchers, two The New Paper umbrellas, Sunplay sunblock and LipIce lip balm.

SPC card members will get an additional $20 voucher.

Not enough? Then aim for the top eight positions and win cash, or a Holux GPS Navigator and SPC vouchers.

The champion walks away with $3,000 cash and $500 worth of SPC petrol.

There will also be prizes for two winners of the Best Dressed SUV competition and a lucky draw to be held during our special-themed dinner on the first night.

Even if you aren't taking part to win, you'll have a good time enjoying the sights along the way.

We can't tell you exactly where, because challenges have been planned in some of the locations.

But we just might hint at possible locations in subsequent reports, so look out for them.

Up to four people can take part as a team per car. Registration is $159 per person.

This includes meals and a night's stay at the quaint French-themed Colmar Tropicale, set 820m above sea level in the lush greenery of Berjaya Hills.

Professional drivers will wow you on the second day with daring off-road driving demonstrations, and you may also have the rare opportunity to try out some of the manoeuvres under their supervision.

These activities will be topped off by a lunch beside a waterfall.

The SUVival Challenge 2008 is limited to 100 SUVs only, so look out for registration forms in The New Paper starting today.

Over this weekend only, we will also be leaving special registration forms under the windscreen wipers of SUVs parked in major shopping centres and selected sheltered carparks across the island.

As part of our 20th anniversary celebrations, we are offering an early bird special: Register before 7 Apr and receive a $50 discount off per car.
