Budget fuel

MR ONG TIONG MENG: "I am disappointed that Shell, as a responsible global leader in the petroleum industry, is embarking on such an anti-green move ('Shell to shut tap on budget fuel', last Friday).

Shell should have practised what it preaches on its website, that octane is unrelated to power.

I urge the National Environment Agency to dissuade Shell from promoting higher-octane fuel.

Higher-octane fuel contains higher benzene content, which is environmentally carcinogenic.

Environment groups in the West are challenging Shell's termination of lower-octane fuel sale.

We should do the same."
