Reader feedback: Where is Borneo's Wish from?

Dear Elysa Chen,

I am referring to your article "Borneo Motors finally brings in Toyota Wish" on Mon, Jun 02,2008 on The New Paper http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/Story/A1Story20080602-68385.html

It has been mentioned that the Borneo Motors Wish is imported from Thailand. - "Borneo Motors is unable to release figures on the number of orders it has already received for the car, which is imported from Thailand and retails at $77,983 with Certificate of Entitlement, or COE."

Could you please clarify the source and authenticity of the information on which your article is based on?

I was told by Borneo Motors that their Wish is made and assembled in Japan and made a booking for it and I am one of their launch customers for this car.

When I took delivery of the car, it had Thai language stickers indicating a Thailand source and I now have a dispute with the company since they declined to show me the birth certificate or shipping proof for origin of the car and also denied to give in writing that it has been assembled in Japan as they committed to me.

I have also had other issues, making my purchase a frustrating experience, when they had initially shown me launch pictures of a higher variant of Wish having arm rests and other features and the car delivered did not have them.

Also, they wanted me to top up for promotional items offered as standard equipment at the launch because they were not in the pictures shown to me when I booked (there were no brochures too), but declined to offer the arm rests which were shown to me in those pictures (one way commitment?).

The sales engineers of the company still say the Wish is imported from Japan at their showroom but cannot explain the presence of the Thai stickers when quizzed about them. So, I do doubt this was a huge exercise where the public was fooled and is still being fooled.

An answer from you would be an incredible help to solve my dispute with them for all the pains I have endured during my purchase experience which was characterised by misleading advertisements, wrong commitments. improper handling of the issue, and unwillingness to negotiate a resolution. I also asked them for customer care contact for Toyota Japan, which they denied as well.
Hoping for the clarification from you.

Thank you and Best Regards,
Binoy Ramesh
