AN SMRT spokesman said that safety sensors are installed on train and platform screen doors to 'ensure all doors are secured before a train is permitted to move off from the station'.
The train officer will re-open train doors if the sensor indicator shows that the doors are not fully secured.
She said: 'In Mr Quek's case, there was no obstruction detected as the wheelchair was inside the train when the train doors closed.
'In the event a passenger experiences difficulty boarding the train, the passenger should seek the assistance of fellow passengers inside the train to activate the Emergency Communication Button to communicate with our Train Officer.
'Passengers on the platform can also activate the Emergency Stop Plunger (ESP) to stop the train from moving off.'
There are four ESPs located on each side of the platform and a red emergency telephone located at the centre of every station platform for commuters to contact station staff.
The spokesman added that SMRT received similar feedback from another passenger this year.
She advised physically disabled passengers to approach station staff for help as they can escort them to the platform and arrange for someone to assist them when they arrive at their destination.
