SINGAPORE - Ferrari today announced its lineup of events leading up to the 2012 Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix in September.
Ferrari will join in launching the F1 season in Singapore by showcasing an exhibit at the Marina Bay Sands highlighting the marquee's history.
On display from September 5 to 24, the exhibit will take visitors on a journey beginning in 1929, when Enzo Ferrari founded Scuderia Ferrari, through to today's versions of the Ferrari.
On September 18, the F12berlinetta, the first in a new generation of Ferrari V12s will be on display on Level 1 of The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
The car is touted as the fastest, most powerful and high-performance Ferrari road car ever built.
The new Prancing Horse 12-cylinder accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.1 seconds and from 0-200 km/h in 8.5 seconds and its fuel consumption has been reduced by 30 per cent, with CO2 emissions of just 350 g/km.
Ferrari will also host one of the F1's support races. One of the most popular one-make series, the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli will conclude its Asia Pacific series in Singapore during the 2012 Formula1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix in September.
For the first time, 32 of the 4.5-litre 570 horsepower V8 berlinettas in the Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific 2012 will grace the Singapore streets and bring their championship-closing round to the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
The challenge features two categories: the Coppa Shell for novice drivers and the Trofeo Pirelli for those who already have competition experience.
The five-stage 2012 APAC series commenced in March in Japan followed by China and Malaysia and will conclude in Singapore. The sixth leg will take place in Europe, specifically at the Ferrari Finali Mondiali where the protagonists from all divisions of the three single-make series (APAC, Europe and North America) will compete for the world title.
Singapore's very own Gregory Teo, who won podium in the inaugural APAC series last year, will be racing in this challenge.
Teo began his racing career back in 2000 and has taken part in both amateur and professional races including Ferrari Track Day, Ferrari Pilota Japan Corso Avanzato and the Ferrari Challenge APAC series. He is currently a member of the Ferrari Owners' Club Singapore and Singapore Motorsports Association.
