Car buyers snapped up a record 320 supercars and ultra-luxurious limousines last year. This was 25 per cent more than in 2005, which was itself among the best years for these high-end sets of wheels. The rarefied marques included Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Porsche, Lamborghini, Lotus, Aston Martin, Ferrari and Maserati. Their prices ranged from just over $200,000 for a Lotus Elise to $1.6 million for a Rolls-Royce Phantom. The 320 cars, many capable of 300kmh or more, set the tills ringing to the tune of $190 million. This sum is close to what all the Toyota Camrys sold last year - about 2,600 - are worth. Porsche was the bestseller here, with more than 160 cars sold. In the $700,000- and-above segment, Lamborghini beat arch-rival Ferrari for the first time last year. It sold 29 cars, versus 26 Ferraris.
