Merc to roll out new C-Class models

The new Mercedes-Benz C-class is a compact performance sedan that rivals cars like BMW's 3-series, Audi's A4 and Lexus' IS. The car will be launched officially at the Geneva Motor Show in March. It will arrive in Singapore by July.

Petrol-driven versions currently include the C350, C280, C200 and C180.

But the C180 - as well as high-powered AMG models - will only be here early next year. Prices are expected to start from about $150,000 (with certificate of entitlement), about the same as for the current model. The new car is longer, wider and roomier. In fact, its wheelbase is just shy of the spacious Toyota Camry's.

Looking like a baby S-class, the new car replaces Mercedes' most successful C-class yet. Launched in 2000, it garnered sales of over two million units worldwide, which made it the best-selling Mercedes passenger car.
