The European New Car Assessment Programme (EuroNCAP) has singled out the Chrysler Voyager as an MPV that had weak occupant protection.

Although the vehicle scored four out of five stars for child protection in crash tests (above), protection for adults remained at two stars _ seven years after it received a two-star rating from EuroNCAP.

According to EuroNCAP, MPVs were weaker in frontal impact tests.

As a result, many manufacturers have made improvements to their vehicles.

But the Chrysler Voyager is an exception.

EuroNCAP chairman Claes Tingvall said he found the result 'shocking'.

The Voyager fared poorly in pedestrian protection too.
