Coming soon - a 'green' car park at MacRitchie Reservoir Park

Work on a new carpark adorned with luscious greenery at the MacRitchie Reservoir Park starts today (Feb 21, 2007).

The new 2-story car park can accommodate about 300 cars, which is about 110 lots more than the current three carparks combined. It will be built at the site of Carpark A, and is expected to be completed by November 2007. More greenery will be added, and the new carpark will blend in with the surroundings, creating a gateway to the reservoir and the nature reserve.

"MacRitchie Reservoir is well loved as a haven for nature and wildlife. As such, even though we are upgrading a basic facility such as a carpark, it is done with sensitivity to the natural environment and in line with preserving the heritage of MacRitchie Reservoir," said Tan Nguan Sen, PUB's Director for Catchment and Waterways.

During the construction period, motorists can park at Carpark B. However, as the number of parking lots will be fewer than currently, the public is advised to use public transport especially on weekends and public holidays.

When the new carpark is completed, Carpark B will be converted into a gathering area while Carpark C, also known as Reservoir Road , will be turned into a pedestrian walkway.

"All these will mean more space for the enjoyment for park visitors. Safety-wise, it is also better as vehicular traffic will be limited to the new green carpark and park visitors will not need to meander through cars along Reservoir Road," added Mr Tan.
