Singaporeans are in a spending mode. COE prices in April's first bidding exercise have again risen across the board, reflecting the buoyant economy.

The biggest price jump is in Category C COEs for Goods Vehicle and Buses, with bids doubling to $2,600 against last month's $1,091 - a sharp reversal from the $1 run of results earlier this year. This is because there are now a larger range of vehicles which meet the stringent Euro IV emission standards.

Category A COEs for vehicles below 1,600cc and taxis continued its climb. With only 2,165 certificates available, the 3,691 bids received caused prices to go up by nearly $500 to $14,000.

COEs for cars above 1600cc (Cat B) increased fractionally by $237 to $14,889.

Category D COEs, which are meant for motorcycles, crept up $12 from last month's $1,001 to $1,013.

The Open Category (Cat E) which can be used for any kind of vehicle also chalked up a substantial increase, jumping by 5% to $15,315.

A total of 5,363 COEs were made available for this month's first bidding, with 8,505 bids received.
