Actor Christopher Lee, currently serving a four-week jail sentence after admitting his guilt in a hit-and-run accident, may soon face stiffer punishment.
The prosecution's appeal against the sentence is due to be heard in the High Court next Friday.
That is also the day the 35-year-old is likely to be released. Lee began serving his sentence on May 28. But a prisoner usually gets one-third remission for good behaviour.
Lee, known for his leading roles in Channel 8 drama serials, is serving his sentence at Queenstown Remand Prison.
On May 10, he pleaded guilty to drink driving, inconsiderate driving, failing to render help and removing his Mercedes-Benz without permission after the accident at the junction of Serangoon Road and Kitchener Road in Little India on Oct 8 last year.
District Judge Terence Chua sent him to jail on the charge of failing to give help to the motorcyclist and pillion rider. Lee was also banned from driving for three years.
The pillion rider, who had serious injuries, had the third toe on his left foot amputated.
Lee was fined $3,000 and banned for two years for drink driving; $800 for inconsiderate driving; and $700 for removing his car. He has paid the fines.
He is due to appear in the Traffic Court for a further pre-trial conference on Thursday on another charge of failing to stop after the accident.
The actor was brought to court on May 30 - two days after he had begun his sentence - for the pre-trial conference.
Justice Lee Seiu Kin will hear the magistrate's appeal.
