FIA confirm Spyker point after appeal hearing

LONDON, Oct 13 (Reuters) - Formula One's governing body confirmed Spyker's first point on Saturday after rejecting an appeal by rivals Toro Rosso.

The International Automobile Federation (FIA) said in a statement that the appeal judges, who met in Paris on Friday, had confirmed the decision of stewards at last month's Japanese Grand Prix.

Italian Vitantonio Liuzzi finished eighth in that race but was given a 25-second penalty for overtaking under a yellow
warning flag, promoting Spyker's Adrian Sutil into the points instead.

Ferrari-powered Toro Rosso made up for the Japanese disappointment by scoring eight points at the following
weekend's Chinese Grand Prix, catapulting them from 10th to seventh overall.

Spyker's sole point leaves them 10th in the championship, ahead of McLaren who were stripped of all their points and fined $100 million after a spying controversy.
