M'sian student dies after car slams into tree in Penang

PENANG: A college student died while his friend was seriously injured when their car broke in two after crashing into a tree in Macalister Road yesterday.

Justin Khoo, 21, died minutes after firemen extricated him from the wreckage of his car at about 4am.

The two friends were on their way home after a night out with friends when the accident happened. Khoo was behind the steering wheel.

The boy's father, who declined to be named, said his eldest son had had dinner with him earlier before leaving to meet up with friends.

"He had just completed his diploma course in business management and was planning to continue his studies next year."

Mangled wreck: The car driven by Khoo lying next to the tree it had slammed into in Macalister Road in Penang.
In an unrelated incident, a fisherman received a shock when he came across a man's body while hauling his catch off Pulau Jerejak.

The fisherman immediately radioed the marine police.

The body was later identified as Ng Lye Lai, 39, by family members.

He is said to have fallen off the Penang Bridge.
