KUALA LUMPUR: The new toll plaza replacing the accident-prone Jelapang toll plaza is expected to be ready in six months, said Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.

The Jelapang toll plaza will then be removed.

"We are building a new toll gate outside the main road and I have asked PLUS (the North-South Expressway concessionaire) to expedite the process.

"The new gate will provide motorists with a longer braking distance before they reach the toll plaza," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby yesterday.

Samy Vellu, who expressed grief over yesterday's fatal bus accident, said the Jelapang toll plaza had claimed 14 lives so far.
