Tue, Dec 18, 2007
The Straits Times

A CORONER on Tuesday returned an open verdict on the deaths of two motorcycle riders after he found not enough evidence against a Malaysian lorry driver who was blamed for the fatal accident last year.

There were no independent witnesses to the Dec 20 accident that killed Madam Siti Rizana Roslan, 23, and her friend, Nadia Abdul Kasim, 22, police said.

Driver Lai Hock Lun, 30, was turning onto Choa Chu Kang Avenue 2 when his truck collided with a motorcycle carrying the two women, the cornoner's court heard.

Both were flung off the machine. Ms Nadia died at the scene while Madam Siti died of multiple injuries in hospital about 1 1/2 hours later.

Mr Lai was earlier named the potential defendant.
