Fastlane: M3 gets folding hard roof
>BMW'S new M3 Convertible is the first M car to have a retractable hard roof and the first BMW to have a dual-clutch transmission. The fourth generation of the topless M3 is powered by a 4-litre V8 that produces 420hp at 8,300rpm and 400Nm of torque at 3,900rpm. It is regulated by either a six-speed manual gearbox or a quicker seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission. The latter allows the car to hit 100kmh in 5.1 seconds, versus 5.3 seconds for the manual. Not only that, the new transmission format - popularised by Volkswagen - improves fuel economy and reduces emissions.
