JOHOR BARU: A 23-year-old factory worker was killed in a collision with six other motorcyclists along Jalan Kempas-Johor Baru while trying to escape a police operation early yesterday.

Mohd Hatta Mat Jadi, of Mersing, was believed to have been part of a group of Mat Rempit showing off their motorcycling skills and racing against the flow of traffic at 1.50am when a police team moved in.

Johor Baru (North) police chief Assistant Commissioner Ruslan Hassan said the deceased raced off on his motorcycle, but crashed into another group of motorcyclists.

He said police roadblocks after the accident saw 26 motorcyclists detained and their machines seized.
