HE was apparently drunk when he killed one backseat passenger and critically injured another.
The 26-year-old Hong Kong man had also completely smashed the back of his vehicle, reported Apple Daily.
But instead of calling for help, the driver reportedly stumbled out of the wreck and fled down the road, leaving his pregnant girlfriend behind in the front seat.
The teenage girl was allegedly so drunk she didn't even register the horror of the crash. She was found sitting in the wreckage, giggling non-stop in a stupor.
Paramedics who arrived on the scene extricated the giggling girl, who apparently was unaware that she was injured and that there had been an accident.
She had been travelling with her boyfriend and two friends on Tuesday when the car spun out of control at around 10am.
The four friends had been driving back from Temple Street in a 200-horsepower sports car.
It is believed that other friends were travelling in another car with them.
As they rounded a right bend, the driver of the sports car lost control of the vehicle.
The car skidded for 100m, almost drifting over the side of the road.
Its rear wheels then hit the kerb, lifting the car into the air and smashing it sideways into a gantry pole.
The impact was so great it flattened the back of the car, crumpling it like a cardboard box.
The 19-year-old backseat passenger was killed instantly, while another 17-year-old was critically injured.
Witnesses said the driver had stumbled out of the car after the crash, leaving his friends trapped in the mangled vehicle.
The driver also abandoned his 17-year-old girlfriend, who is four months pregnant.
When rescued, the girl was incoherent.
She said the driver was her husband at times and, at other times, said he was her boyfriend.
She also giggled uncontrollably throughout.
Paramedics, who arrived shortly after the accident, also managed to extricate the two passengers in the rear seats.
They performed emergency resuscitation on the men, who were both unconscious.
However, the 19-year-old was already dead.
Using information contained in a wallet found on the pregnant teen, police investigating the crash tracked the driver down after five hours.
They arrested him on charges of dangerous driving resulting in death.
A witness who had called the police to report the accident was also detained to help with investigations.
She had claimed she was passing by in a car when she saw the accident.
However, police officers later suspected she was a friend of the victims. She is believed to have been travelling in another car.
