Fastlane: Auto-levelling lights

>FROM Jan 1, 2010, all newly registered vehicles in Singapore fitted with high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps must have an auto-levelling feature, which is a mechanism that automatically adjusts the headlamp angle irrespective of the car's load.

The new rule is to prevent HID lamps - which are twice as bright as halogen lamps - from blinding oncoming traffic, an increasingly common complaint. Motorists who retrofit their cars with HID lamps will thus run the risk of being caught for illegal modification.
