Fastlane: The Grand ol' days
>A NEW book commemorating Singapore's gritty street races of the 1960s and early 1970s will be launched on June 9. Called Snakes & Devils (nicknames of turns at the Old Thomson Road Singapore Grand Prix circuit) and written by ex-banker Eli Solomon, it is a 288-page self-funded endeavour with over 500 rare photos.

Solomon, 44, who is now in the rare books business, says Snakes is the result of five years of research. It is 'a private enterprise and written entirely for those giants who raced during the period when sex was safe and racing dangerous'', he says. Part of a larger book on the history of racing in Asia, Snakes boasts forewords written by triple world champion Jack Brabham of Australia and Rodney Seow, the last Singaporean to win the GP (in 1967).
