Info panels on available parking lots go live in Marina Centre

MOTORISTS got a better idea on Tuesday of where to find an available parking lot in the Marina Centre area.

Instead of circling the block and adding to traffic in the area, they were able to get real time information from the panels put up by the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

The panels, which went live at 8am on Tuesday, show the number of available lots at Suntec City, Marina Square, Millenia Singapore, The Esplanade and Raffles City.

There are some 8,400 lots available in these five locations.

Updated information from each carpark is sent to LTA via a wireless network and the panels are then updated accordingly.

These large black panels have been put up at the side of the road at eight locations in the vicinity.

LTA said it was looking to roll out more of such panels around Singapore, with the HarbourFront area as the next target.

Motorists would like the LTA to also consider the Orchard Road, Scotts Road area, as well as the East Coast Parkway area.
