LONDON, April 16 (Reuters) - French driver Sebastien Bourdais crashed Toro Rosso's new Formula One car on its track debut at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya on Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for the Italy-based team said Bourdais, who had completed more than 70 laps, was unhurt but the car was too badly damaged after hitting the barriers to continue testing.

"We don't have enough parts to get the car ready for tomorrow so we have to go home," she said.

Germany's Sebastian Vettel had been due to test the STR3 on Thursday.

The car is scheduled to race for the first time at the Turkish Grand Prix on May 11, with the Red Bull-owned team continuing with last year's car in next week's Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona.

Bourdais, a four times Champ Car champion in the United States, scored Toro Rosso's only points of the season when he finished seventh on his Formula One debut in last month's Australian season-opener.
