RESPONSE from the Land Transport Authority:
'Based on our records, in recent months, the number of CashCard error cases stands at about 300 per month, compared to about 250 per month last year.
With more ERP transactions over the years, we have recorded slightly more cases of CashCard errors, but the percentage of error cases as compared to all ERP transactions remains low at about 0.004 per cent.
Based on feedback received from motorists and information gathered at the inspection centres, the increase in cases has been traced to a specific batch of CashCards issued from mid-2006 (without the word 'Gemplus' on the chip), which had earlier passed Nets validation tests at that time.
While the percentage of CashCard errors is still very small (0.004 per cent of all ERP transactions), the LTA has communicated its concern about the increasing number of intermittent faults reported due to this particular batch of CashCards.
Motorists who are experiencing intermittent faults with their CashCards are advised to take their CashCards to any of the authorised inspection centres for inspection.
The LTA will not impose any administrative fee or fine if it is established that the CashCard is faulty.
