A LOADED cement mixer hit a bus and overturned along the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) near Alexandra Hospital at 6.30am on Tuesday, causing a morning rush-hour traffic snarl tailing back all the way to Jurong Town Hall Road.

The driver of the mixer, Mr V. Selvarajan, 39, an Indian national, was slightly injured. He suffered a cut on his hand and bruised his head.

The concrete mix in the cement drum spilled onto the road when the vehicle landed on its sides. Workers cleared the spillage by about 9.30am.

Mr Selvarajan, who works for Woodlands Transport Service, said he was heading towards the Marina Bay Integrated Resorts building site to deliver the cement load when the accident happened.

'The bus in front of me suddenly stopped and my cement mixer hit it because it was too late for me to stop,' he told The Straits Times.

'The next moment, my vehicle toppled over to its side but I managed to move to the left side.'
