Penalised by a glitch that's not of his making

IT IS unfortunate the authorities have not resolved the ongoing problem relating to Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) gantries and the failure to detect CashCards as motorists pass under them.

Meanwhile, motorists must endure unpleasant notices warning of punitive action should they fail to pay a $10 'administration fee', on top of gantry fees not deducted from their CashCards.

It is costly and time-consuming to drive all the way to Viacom to have in-vehicle units (IUs) and CashCards verified. The fact is there has been a large number of cases to indicate an error in the system.

Yet motorists must bear the burden unfairly.

I have been such a victim, but my e-mail messages to the Land Transport Authority have met with silence. And I must cough up the 'administration fee' or face a fine for a 'wrong' I did not commit.
