The Straits Times

TWO youths, aged 16 and 17, believed to have been involved in at least 11 motorcycle thefts in Hougang, Sembawang and Yishun estates, have been arrested.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio police division nabbed them on Tuesday at about 11 am.

The first suspect was caught at Block 501 Wellington Crescent, while his accomplice was arrested shortly after at his home at Block 318 Sembawang.

Police also seized a bunch of keys which were used to steal the motorcycles and recovered four of the stolen machines in Sembawang estate.

All 11 motorcycles reported stolen have been found.

The series of motorcycle thefts began in April. In most of the cases, the victims had parked them in multi-storey car parks overnight and found them missing the next morning.

Police said the motorcycles were recovered within a few days at nearby multi-storey car parks.

'It appeared that the motorcycles were stolen for the purpose of joyrides,' said a police statement on Wednesday.

The two youths will be charged in court on Thursday for theft, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years.
