New Bus to ease congestion on MRT's
Mon, Jun 30, 2008
AsiaOne

A new bus service 128 will commence along the south bound section of the NSEW from July 7th 2008.

This is in order to help ease persistent heavy passenger loading along sections of mature rail lines on the way to and from work.

Currently the southbound section of the North-South-East-West Line from Bishan to Newton MRT stations faces persistent heavy passenger loading.

Hence The Public Transport Council(PTC) has given approval for the implementation of 128 which duplicates
sections of the MRT line.

Since The PTC cannot expand rail capacity at the moment during peak periods, they hope to
ease the crowding with bus route 128.

It will operate between Ang Mo Kio Depot and Shenton Way and cover 13 MRT stations along the NSEW and stop at selected bus stops in between MRT stations along its route.

Thus commuters have the option to select the mode of transport to take.

SBST's service 128 will start with 4 trips each during the morning and evening peak hours.

SBST may increase the number of trips in the peak periods if demand for the service is high.
