Faulty MRR2 pillar to get tie-frame

KUALA LUMPUR (Malaysia): The Public Works Department is temporarily fixing a faulty pillar, one of 33 holding up the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) bridge in Kepong, through a process called tie-frame.

"What they plan to do is to use a frame to tie the pillar together as a remedy to stop it from further falling apart," said Public Accounts Committee chairman Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid.

"Once this is done, they will conduct further inspections to find out what actually went wrong."

He also said once the tie-frame process was done by the end of the month, MRR2 would be safe for road users and all lanes would be open to the public. At present, only five of the six lanes are open.

Azmi was speaking after inspecting the damaged pillar along with nine other MPs as well as officers from the Economic Planning Unit and Public Service Department.

The PAC members were earlier briefed on the situation by PWD officials.

They praised the PWD officers for the job being done to rectify the cracks on the faulty pillar.

Azmi also said the PWD was taking Bumi Highway, the MRR2 contractors, to court.

"PWD filed a claim last month for damages of up to RM74.6 million."
