The Briton's stunning debut with Williams in 2000 had people talking. But an unexpected move to Benetton (which was renamed Renault in 2002) in 2001 left him very isolated. In 2003, he moved to BAR. His stint at BAR saw numerous podiums. In 2005, however, he signed a multi-year deal with Honda.

In 1993, the Brazilian joined Jordan. Four years later, in 1997, he moved to Stewart, where he had a successful period. In 2000, he went to Ferrari, replacing Eddie Irvine. He performed well with the Italian team, winning nine races and gaining numerous podiums, but opted to move to Honda in 2006, after finishing eighth in 2005, his worst finish since joining Ferrari.

After testing with Minardi and Ferrari, he debuted with Minardi in 1996. His performances were good enough to get him a deal with Jordan. After a year with Jordan, he moved to Benetton for four years, shifting back to Jordan for the 2002 and 2003 seasons. The Italian joined Sauber for a year, then he moved to Renault in 2005. In 2006, he won one race to his teammate Fernando Alonso's seven. After being out-paced by his rookie teammate Heikki Kovalainen, he left Renault for Force India.
