ERP rates to fall

By Tony Ng

Motorists who drive to the Central Business District (CBD) will have something to cheer about come Sept 29.

Evening ERP rates for the CBD will be reduced by 50 per cent for the 10 CBD gantries in the Shenton Way - Chinatown Cordon, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on Friday.

This means motorists need only pay $1 instead of $2 if they pass through the gantries from 7pm to 8pm.

ERP charges for the gantries at New Bridge road, South Bridge Road and Fullerton Road (westbound) will also be reduced.

From 6pm to 730pm, motorists who pass through the gantries will need to pay only $1 instead of $2. There will be no ERP charges from 730pm to 830pm.

Similarly, motorists will also pay 50 per cent less at the gantries along Eu Tong Sen Street and Fullerton Road (eastbound). From 6pm to 7.30pm, motorists need only pay $1 instead of $2.

"Traffic monitoring over the last three months have shown that traffic conditions have improved significantly in the Shenton Way-Chinatown cordon. This enables LTA to reduce ERP rates in parts of the CBD without compromising the overall CBD traffic situation," said LTA Chief Executive, Mr Yam Ah Mee.

On the other hand, the gantry along PIE (westbound) near Eunos will be activated on Nov 3 as traffic conditions there remain below the optimal speed threshold. Rates will be determined closer to the date of implementation.

ERP gantries will not be implemented along Commonwealth Avenue, Jalan Bukit Merah, Alexandra Road and AYE (westbound) due to optimal traffic conditions.
