KLANG, MALAYSIA - Selangor traffic police have identified 36 dangerous roads in the state, state Traffic and Public Order chief Supt Che Hussin Omar said.

He said motorists should be extra careful when using these accident-prone stretches.

He added that 838 personnel were being stationed at strategic locations to ensure safe and smooth traffic during festive period.

'We are targeting to minimise the fatal road accidents especially at the accident-prone areas,' he said when contacted.

He said in Ops Sikap XIII during last year's Hari Raya period, there were 31 fatal accident cases which involved 35 deaths.

'We hope to reduce it by at least 5% of last year's figure,' he said.

Supt Che Hussin said a total of 66,424 road accidents were reported in the state between January and August, compared with 65,773 accidents reported over the same period last year.

A total of 702 people were killed in the road accidents during the same period, an increase of 61 cases compared with 641 fatalities last year, he added.

He said Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya and Klang were the three districts with most accident cases recorded.

The state traffic police also issued a total of 2,015 summons on the first day of the Ops Sikap XVII on Wednesday to motorists for various offences such as speeding, overtaking on double lines and using mobile phones while driving, he said.

Supt Che Hussin warned motorists that the police would not hesitate to book any traffic offenders who violated the rules.
