Death toll at 66 since Oct 24

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Eighteen people were killed in road accidents on Monday, Day 5 of Ops Sikap XVII, bringing the total to 66 deaths since it was launched on Oct 24, Bernama reported.

Victims comprised 13 motorcyclists, two car users, two cyclists and a peedestrian.

Bukit Aman traffic chief Senior Asst Comm (II) Abd Aziz Yusof said that motorcyclists and pillion riders made up almost half of the fatalities, Bernama reported.

3,010 accidents were reported nation-wide, SAC Aziz told Bernama.

A total of 17,645 summonses were also issued for various traffic offences.

He added that police would continue to monitor accident-prone areas during the operation which ends tomorrow.

Ops Sikap is a traffic safety operation launched by the Malaysian police to ensure safety on all Malaysian roads during festive seasons.
