VW Czech unit cuts production

PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC - Volkswagen's Czech unit Skoda Auto will cut back production in the final two months of the year due to weaker demand, a Skoda spokesman said on Tuesday.

Planned shutdowns in November and December at Skoda, the country's largest exporter, will reduce output by 18,000 vehicles, spokesman Jaroslav Cerny said, adding to an earlier announced production cut of 13,000 cars.

"We will produce more than last year, but I don't want to comment on concrete plans," he said.

The group had targeted production of 700,000 vehicles this year, up from 630,000 the year before.
