Norwegian police driven crazy by 61-time motor offender

OSLO, NORWAY - A 24-year-old Norwegian appeared before a judge on Monday after he was stopped for the 61st time for driving without a license, a Norwegian newspaper reported on its internet site.

"We would have impounded his car if he had one but the problem is that he borrows other people's cars," the chief of police in the town of Skien, Svein Noeklegaard, told the local newspaper Varden.

"Furthermore, last time he was driving with fake license plates," he added.

The young man has already been found guilty of the offence 12 times.

"He was released in October after serving his most recent prison sentence but he has already been stopped for driving without a license four times since then," he said.

The man, whose name was not disclosed, was in court to determine whether he would be remanded in custody.
