Audi Hungary to stop car production for 4 weeks

BUDAPEST (Reuters) - Audi, one of Hungary's biggest exporters, will halt car production at its Gyor plant for four weeks from mid December, spokesman Peter Lore said on Friday.

National news agency MTI quoted him as saying engine production would also stop for 2-4 weeks, depending on the type of the engine.

Production will pause because demand for two of the three car models produced at Gyor is usually lower in the winter than in the spring and the summer, Lore said.

Audi produces TT and TT Roadster sports cars and the A3 model in Hungary.

MTI said Audi would still produce more than 60,000 cars this year at Gyor, up from 56,000 last year, while engine output would be flat at 1.9 million units.

Lore was mot immediately available for further comment. Audi last month announced cuts in its temporary workforce in Hungary due to a decline in orders amid the global financial crisis.
