KUALA SELANGOR, Malaysia: The state government received its fleet of 15 Toyota Camry cars two days after a decision was made to buy them.
Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said the decision to get the cars was made on Wednesday at the weekly executive council meeting that he chaired.
"The cars were in storage and due to our good relationship with the company, we could get them quickly," he said after launching the state gotong-royong day here yesterday.
The state received the black Camry cars on Friday.
He said the Camry was chosen based on the price quoted by UMW Toyota and not through an open tender. He said UMW Toyota had also agreed to take up the cost of any major repairs on the cars.
Khalid said the state had obtained quotations from Proton, Toyota, Honda and other car distributors.
As for the previous Proton Perdana V6, cars below two years old will be retained and used as pool cars while those more than four years old will be sold off through open tenders. --The New Straits Times/Asia News Network
