LTA's drive yields results

By Teh Joo Lin

THE junction of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 and the Central Expressway (CTE) used to be a magnet for accidents - 38 crashes took place there in the three years leading up to September 2005. In the three years since, the number of accidents there has been more than halved to 17.

Safety features installed there have made the difference. They include traffic lights controlling right-hand turns and tree pruning.

At least four other accident 'black spots' across the island are showing similarly positive results since the installation of safety features by the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
