VM M'sia to spend more in '09

PETALING JAYA, Malaysia: Volkswagen dealer VW Cars Sdn Bhd will spend more this year to generate interest and increase sales of the marque.

Its director of sales Helmi Ilyas said the distributor was targeting sales of 1,000 units this year.

It sold 920 units or 20% more than in 2007 last year.

Helmi told reporters Wednesday after the announcement of VW Cars as the official event partner for Le Tour De Langkawi 2009 that the company would be spending more on promotional events especially in a downturn to generate more interest and to increase sales.

He said besides the Le Tour De Langkawi, the company has also signed a four-year deal to be part of the Monsoon Cup where it is providing the cars.
